Lightwave Report, Digital Application Laboratory LAN and Full Service Access Network Organization FSAN and Broadband Forum recently announced that the second XGS-PON interoperability testing event will focus on XGS-PON OLT and ONU and GPON and NG-PON2 Coexistence of many different PON technologies. The first test was held in Tauxigny, France last December. According to ITU-T G.9807.1, XGS-PON supports symmetrical 10Gbps bandwidth and is compatible with existing 2.5Gbps PON.
ADTRAN, Broadcom, Calix, CommScope, Econet, Huawei, Intel, MT2, Nokia, Sagemcom, TiBit Communications and ZTE will participate in this test. France Telecom Orange will also participate in the test as a support operator. Through this kind of test, each equipment manufacturer and FSAN, broadband forum member can know the direction of further improvement.
Christian Gacon, Director of Cable Networks and Architecture at Orange Labs, said that effective interoperability testing and the next step of ONU certification are essential before large-scale deployment of technology. The XGS-PON test ensures that this technology can meet the general technical specifications of the major operators.
This test is also an extension of the Broadband Forum's PON interoperability test series. Broadband Forum's BBF.247 G-PON and XG-PON1 ONU certification is planning to include XGS-PON and NG-PON2.
Thierry Doligez, director of LAN, said that since the first interoperability test was held in December last year, the PON sector has become more and more lively. This test also reflects the progress of this field in the past year. Industry is working hard to ensure that there are multiple interoperable PON equipment suppliers, ensuring that operators can obtain cost-effective PON solutions
